Essential Duties:

The Rainbow Alliance is seeking an Executive Director who will have overall responsibility for financial, operational, and programmatic management of the organization and carrying out the priorities as determined by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director should be a strong and collaborative leader and organizer with a willingness to create their role and the resources to propel the organization to the next level. The Executive Director should have excellent written and oral communications skills along with creativity and networking abilities. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and will ultimately be responsible for the day to day coordination of processes within the organization.

The Rainbow Alliance provides education, support, and advocacy for LGBTQIA+ individuals and families within the Wyoming Valley while working to advance fairness and equality.

To work towards this future we will educate and empower our volunteers to create strategic, peer-driven, sustainable programming overseen by strengthened volunteer leadership.

Resource Development and Fiscal Responsibility

  • Assume ultimate accountability for securing resources needed to support the organization’s mission
  • Develop and expand relationships with corporate, institutional, and individual donors
  • Develop and expand annual events, memberships, and sponsorships
  • Identify funding opportunities and develop grant applications
  • Develop and manage organizational budget in partnership with Board of Directors
  • Serve as liaison between Board of Directors and contractors i.e. accountant

Organizational Management & Leadership

  • Develop and sustain programming consistent with the mission of the organization
  • Recruit, orient, supervise and train volunteers and interns
  • Work with Board of Directors to address the ongoing operational needs of the community and organization
  • Coordinate communication and outreach including social media, email, and website
  • Facilitate and attend Board, Executive Board, committee and community meetings

External Relations and Outreach

  • Establish and strengthen partnerships with local businesses, community groups, allies, and other LGBTQIA+ organizations throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania
  • Provide leadership to the LGBTQIA+ community by generating innovative ways to provide service
  • Develop and provide oversight for organizational communication and marketing plans
  • Represent the Alliance at major public events and fundraising opportunities
  • Cultivate key relationships through outreach and collaboration, and work to increase awareness of the organization
  • Support organizational partnerships and programming in conjunction with partners.

Reports To

Board of Directors. Works closely with the Executive Committee.

Compensation & Position Type

  • The Rainbow Alliance is offering a compensation package that includes an hourly rate of $20 – $25 (depending on skills and experience)
  • This role is part-time (average of 20 hours per week) for one year. Renewal is contingent on grant renewal or funding availability.

Requirements

  • Attend Board Meetings, last Tuesday of each month
  • Previous experience as Executive Director or similar position
  • The candidate should reside in the Rainbow Alliance service area

Desirable Qualifications

  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Has held a leadership role in a nonprofit organization
  • Demonstrated leadership and support of the LGBTQIA+ community
  • Proven track record of developing or propelling organizational growth and sustainability
  • Comfort driving financial development and leading by example to secure contributed revenue from multiple sources
  • Knowledge of the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)
  • Understand the laws, rules, and regulations governing the operation of a Pennsylvania 501(c)3 organization
