Group Mission & Vision
The mission of the Rainbow Alliance Trans Social Discussion Group is to provide a safe and nurturing place for transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary people to meet, learn, socialize, support each other, and take pride in their lives.
Our vision is to become a resource for social activity, support, and education for transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary people in Wyoming Valley, PA, including Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming Counties.
Group Community Standards
- This is an open group that is inclusive of transgender, gender non-conforming, and non-binary people.
- Confidentiality is our watchword: everything that’s shared here stays here. A sense of trust is essential in open sharing. People must feel free to share their own personal experiences and emotions. Please do not share about other people’s feelings or their personal stories outside of this group. Please do not contact group members outside of the meeting format without their prior permission; we ask that you respect the privacy and confidentiality of group members as everyone is in a different phase of their journey.
- When someone is speaking, please give them the courtesy of listening without interrupting.
- Participating in silence is alright – no one has to talk.
- We will not judge or be judged by what we do or say at this meeting.
- Generally, please make an effort to keep the focus. Bringing up unrelated issues during the group session can be distracting to others.
- Please refrain from talking about politics or religion unless it is a situation that impacts you personally. We respect everyone’s right to vote and worship as they please.
- If you have a problem with a group member, feel free to discuss it with one of the group moderators.
- Group moderators are not healthcare professionals or therapists, but they are responsible to the Rainbow Alliance as mandatory reporters in situations that may involve issues related to self-harm, harm to others, or illegal activities.
General Session Format
- Meetings will be scheduled twice per month.
- If a meeting is canceled, there will be a notification on the Trans Social Discussion Group Facebook page.
- Group meetings will last approx. 1 hour.
- Meetings will be held virtually on Zoom until further announcement.
- Participants are encouraged to share personal stories, anecdotes, and feelings, as it relates to the transgender lived experience and the group discussion.
- There is no obligation to speak.
